Artist's Description

I have a full picture of the Knocknagow someplace. The Knocknagow was an old river barge that used to transport goods by the river Suir from Waterford to Dowley's of Carrick on Suir on a daily basis, and at a regular time. The barge used to sound a hooter passing various places along the river and workmen would then know the approximate time in those days when everybody did not have watches.
The boat was later used in the gravel trade on both the Suir and the Slaney, with an excavator on the bow. In 1975 it was saved from the scrap yard, shortened to 61' so that it would fit the Irish Grand Canal, re-plated and converted for use as a private pleasure-boat.
